I love making chicken thighs in the air fryer. The skin on these bone-in chicken thighs is crispy and packed full of flavor. The inside is super juicy and delicious too!

- Do Good Chicken Thighs
- Avocado oil
- Seasoning: salt, paprika, Italian seasoning, cayenne pepper, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder
✳️ Tips & Tricks
To ensure that the chicken stays moist, check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer. Once they reach 165F, remove them from the air fryer. Don’t overcook.
If you don’t care for the kick of the cayenne pepper you can just use a little less.
When cooking bone-in chicken thighs when you go to flip them just be careful the skin can crinkle up on you.
Tools to make this Blackened Chicken Thighs in the Air Fryer

- Tongs – tongs are easiest to remove and flip the chicken
- Meat thermometer – You always want to make sure the internal temperature of ANY chicken 165F.
How to make Air Fryer Blackened Chicken Thighs
- Prep the chicken. Place the chicken on a plate. Drizzle the avocado oil over the chicken, and sprinkle all the seasoning over the chicken. Using your palm press the seasoning into the chicken.
- Cook the chicken. Transfer the chicken to the air fryer basket and cook at 390F for 18 minutes flipping halfway through.
- Serve the chicken. Once the timer goes off and the internal temperature is 165F remove the chicken from the air fryer basket and serve.
Oven Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400F.
- Place the chicken on a plate. Drizzle the avocado oil over the chicken, and sprinkle all the seasoning over the chicken. Using your palm press the seasoning into the chicken.
- Transfer the chicken thighs to a baking pan and place them inside the oven.
- Cook the chicken thighs for 20 minutes.
- Once the timer goes off remove the chicken from the oven and serve.
Substitutions
If you don’t have bone-in chicken thighs, you can use boneless skinless chicken thighs instead. You will just have to reduce the cooking time by a few minutes.
What to serve with Blackened Chicken Thighs
I paired these chicken thighs with Sautéed Zucchinis and let me tell you OH MY! You could also pair these blackened chicken thighs with your favorite low carbs sides to keep it keto, or mashed potatoes if you don’t watch your carb intake.
How to store
- Store leftovers in an airtight glass container for up to 5 days.

Remove the lid from the container and microwave on high for 1 to 1.5 minutes or until chicken is warm. Alternatively you can transfer to a microwave save plate to warm up.
If you want to warm this up in your air fryer, cook it for 2-3 minutes at 400F.

Should I wrap my chicken in foil in the air fryer?
You can but its not necessary.
