Chicken Tenders are a big hit in my household. These honey bbq chicken tenders didn’t last. They were gone in under five minutes. This recipe is a fun way to spruce up regular chicken tenders.

To ensure that the chicken stays moist, check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer. Once they reach 165F, remove them from the air fryer. Don’t overcook.
Tools to make this Honey BBQ Chicken Tenders in the Air Fryer

- Tongs – tongs are easiest to remove and flip the chicken
- Meat thermometer – You always want to make sure the internal temperature of ANY chicken 165F.
How to make Air Fryer Honey BBQ Chicken Tenders
- Prepare the ingredients. Grab two shallow bowls. Add all of the dry ingredients into one and crack the egg into the other. Whisk the egg until it is light and fluffy. Mix the dry ingredients together in the other.
- Coat the chicken tenders. Transfer the chicken tenders to the egg wash, making sure to coat both sides. Immediately transfer the chicken tenders into the bread crumbs. Make sure to coat the tenders entirely.
- Cook the tenders. Place the chicken into the air fryer basket and cook at 390F for 14 minutes, flipping halfway through. They should be around 165F.
- Make the Honey BBQ Sauce. While the chicken is cooking, add the ketchup, honey, and bbq sauce into a bowl and mix together. You do not need to cook the sauce, but if you desired a thick dipping sauce, you can reduce it on the stove top.
- Coat the chicken tenders with honey BBQ sauce. Once the timer goes off brush the honey bbq sauce on the top of the chicken tenders and cook for another minute. Once the timer goes off flip the chicken and brush the other side of the chicken with the sauce. Cook for another minute.
- Remove the chicken from the air fryer basket and serve.
Oven Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400F.
- Grab two large mixing bowls. Add all your dry ingredients into one and crack the egg into the other.
- Whisk the egg till it’s fluffy. Mix the dry ingredients together.
- Transfer the chicken tenders into the egg wash, making sure to coat both sides. Immediately transfer the chicken tenders into the bread crumbs.
- Transfer to the baking sheet and cook for 20 minutes.
- While the chicken is cooking add the ketchup, honey, and bbq sauce into a bowl and mix together.
- Once the timer goes off brush the honey bbq sauce on top of the chicken and cook for another minute. Once the timer goes off flip the chicken and brush the other side of the chicken with the sauce. Cook for another minute.
- Remove the chicken from the air fryer basket and serve.
Substitutions
If you don’t have chicken tenders, you can slice a large chicken breast into strips to mimic chicken tenders like I did in this Air Fryer Chicken Breast Strips recipe. You can also use chicken cutlets as well.
If you don’t have regular bread crumbs you can use Panko bread crumbs. I made my own homemade honey bbq sauce, but you can use a store bought sauce.
What to serve with Honey BBQ Chicken Tenders
These pair great with Air Fryer Asparagus and helped make this meal a little healthier.
How to store
- Store leftovers in an airtight glass container for up to 5 days.
♨️ How to reheat
Remove the lid from the container and microwave on high for 1 to 1.5 minutes or until chicken is warm. Alternatively you can transfer to a microwave save plate to warm up.
If you want to warm this up in your air fryer, cook it for 2-3 minutes at 400F.

Cook them at 390F for 16 minutes total. 14 minutes without sauce and then an additional 2 minutes once they’ve been basted with sauce.
