Air Fryer Teriyaki Chicken Legs

I never thought I would enjoy teriyaki sauce this much until I made my own Easy Homemade Teriyaki Sauce. I’ve since made teriyaki chicken breast, teriyaki chicken thighs, and teriyaki chicken tenders.

I like to keep things simple as you know, so these chicken legs only have two ingredients!

So hear me out.

At first, you may look and think these are burnt. But TRUST ME. They aren’t.

The chicken skin was deliciously crispy, and the meat was super juicy! The contrast made these even more enjoyable!

One bite had me drooling.

  • Budget Friendly – I got two packs of chicken legs on sale for $2.75. There were three chicken legs per package, and they were buy one get one free. What a steal. You can always buy extra and store them in your freezer if you have the space.
  • Easy Recipe – With only two ingredients, this recipe is super easy and only a few steps.
  • Meal Prep – these teriyaki chicken legs are great for meal prep! Whip up a big batch of rice and portion out some chicken legs. You can also add vegetables and add some extra teriyaki sauce to the veggies.

Ingredients

  • Chicken Legs – you can also use chicken leg quarters
  • Homemade Teriyaki Sauce – you can also use a store-bought teriyaki sauce if you don’t want to make my homemade one

✳️ Tips & Tricks

If you don’t like your chicken legs this crispy, you can line the air fryer basket with aluminum foil. Make sure you have enough aluminum foil to cover the top of the chicken legs.

Some chicken legs need the skin to be pulled/ stretched to cover the leg. This ensures you don’t get a mouth full of skin and no meat when you bite into it.

Once the timer goes off on the air fryer, you always want to remove the chicken immediately to ensure you don’t dry out the chicken.

Tools to make this

  • Cosori Air Fryer – this is my favorite air fryer. The large air fryer basket makes it so easy to cook your favorite recipes
  • Tongs – tongs are easiest to remove and flip the chicken legs
  • Meat thermometer – You always want to ensure the internal temperature of ANY chicken is 165F.

How to make Teriyaki Chicken Legs in the Air Fryer

  1. Remove chicken legs from the package. Stretch the chicken skin if needed.
  2. Place the chicken legs into a ziplock bag and add the homemade teriyaki sauce.
  3. Remove the air from the bag and seal it. Toss the chicken legs around to ensure they get coated in the sauce.
  4. Transfer the chicken legs to the air fryer basket.
  5. Cook at 390F for 20 minutes. Flipping the chicken legs halfway through.
  6. Once the timer goes off, remove the chicken legs from the air fryer basket.
  7. Serve and enjoy.

Oven Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400F degrees.
  2. Remove chicken legs from the package. Stretch the chicken skin if needed.
  3. Place the chicken legs into a ziplock bag and add the homemade teriyaki sauce.
  4. Remove the air from the bag and seal it. Toss the chicken legs around to ensure they get coated in the sauce.
  5. Line a cooking sheet with aluminum foil and place the chicken legs onto the cooking sheet.
  6. Transfer to the oven and cook for 40 minutes or until the internal temperature is 165F.
  7. Once the timer goes off, remove and serve.

Substitutions

If you don’t have chicken legs and want dark-meat chicken, you can substitute chicken legs for chicken leg quarters or chicken thighs.

If you don’t want to make my homemade teriyaki sauce, you can use your favorite store-bought brand.

What to serve with Air Fryer Teriyaki Chicken Legs

Can you take guess what I’m about to suggest…. white rice will always be my go-to side dish. Especially for an Asian dish like this teriyaki chicken. If you’re trying to reduce your carbs, you can always serve it with cauliflower rice.

You can also add some stir fry vegetables or add some teriyaki sauce to some Asian blend vegetables. Another great and healthy side is these Lemon Garlic Roasted Brussels Sprouts

How to store

Store leftovers in an airtight glass container for up to 5 days.

♨️ How to reheat

Remove the lid from the container and microwave on high for 1 to 1.5 minutes or until the chicken is warm. Alternatively, you can transfer to a microwave save plate to warm up.

To warm this up in your air fryer, cook it for 2-3 minutes at 400F.
