That’s why I decided to make my own air fryer chicken wings recipe! You can use these seasonings on everything chicken wings, Chicken Legs with Dry Rub Seasoning, and Keto Chicken Thighs.
I went the super-budget route by buying chicken wings in bulk and buying the wings whole. The only hard part was cutting the chicken wings into flats and drums (or drumettes). Just be careful not to cut yourself as I did haha..
This was my first time breaking down chicken wings and it was a whole lot harder than I expected! If you want to go the convenience over budget route you can get chicken wings already broken down.

- Whole chicken wings – or you can buy wings that have already been broken down
- Air Fryer Chicken Dry Rub – or you can use your favorite keto dry rub for chicken wings
Tips & Tricks
Be careful cutting the wings. You don’t want to cut yourself. Make sure to use a very sharp knife to cut the wings. Dull knifes will make you more prone to cut yourself.
If you don’t want to cut the wings, you can cook them in the air fryer whole.
Check the internal temperature of the chicken wings, and remove them from the air fryer when they reach 165F.
Tools to make this Keto Dry Rub Chicken Wing Recipe

- Tongs – tongs are easiest to remove and flip the chicken
- Meat thermometer – You always want to make sure the internal temperature of ANY chicken 165F, for best results.
How to make Dry Rub Keto Chicken Wings in the Air Fryer
- Break down the whole chicken wings. Cut the chicken wings into drums and flats with a sharp knife. Do this by cutting at the cartilage. Don’t forget to cut off the little tip too!
- Season the chicken wings. Place the chicken wings into a bowl, add in the dry rub seasoning. Toss the chicken so the chicken wings are coated in the dry rub seasoning.
- Cook the chicken wings. Transfer the chicken wings to the air fryer basket. Make sure to line them in a single layer. Depending on the amount of chicken wings, you will need to do these in batches.
- Cook in the Air Fryer at 390F degrees for 25 minutes. No need to flip the wings halfway through the cooking.
- Remove the wings from the air fryer and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
Oven Directions
- Preheat the oven to 375F.
- Cut the chicken wings into flats and wings.
- Place the chicken wings into a bowl, and add the dry rub seasoning. Toss the chicken wings till they are coated in the seasoning.
- Line a cooking sheet with parchment paper. Lay the wings down in a single layer, not touching.
- Cook for 30 minutes. Flipping halfway through.
- Remove from the oven and serve with your favorite dipping sauce. You can even top it with sesame seeds!
Substitutions
- If you want to save prep time, you can buy the wings already cut up.
- Make “boneless wings” by using chicken tenders
- If you like a little more kick you can use a blackening seasoning, like the one from my blackened chicken breast recipe. Or you can simply add some cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper to the dry rub seasoning.
- You can tweak the recipe according to your flavor preferences so go ahead, use your favorite add-ons like garlic powder, chili powder, blue cheese dressing, or lemon pepper seasoning.
What to serve with Dry Rub Chicken Wings
Chicken wings are one of those items where you can eat them by themselves or with celery sticks or carrot sticks. Air fryer broccoli also does the trick! If you want full blown sides, try these Air Fryer Potato Chips or Air Fryer French Fries. You can pair it with your favorite dipping sauces.

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
How to reheat
These chicken wings re-heat the best in the air fryer. They get all nice and crispy again!
Cook them in the air fryer at 390F for 5 minutes. If you want a quicker reheat method, you can microwave them for 1 minute. Place them on a paper towel to soak up any remaining oil.

Do you add dry rub before or after cooking wings?
You will add the dry rub seasoning before you cook the chicken wings.
How do you get the rub to stick to wings?
If you are having an issue with the dry rub seasoning not sticking you can use avocado oil to make a “paste” to apply the seasoning.
How do you use dry rub on wings?
You can add the wings in a small bowl and toss them around, or you can put the wings in a zip lock bag with the dry rub to coat them.
How long should dry rub sit on chicken?
Personally with this recipe the dry rub was applied and then the chicken was immediately cooked. I did these in batches and the chicken was sitting out for an additional 30 minutes while the chicken was being cooked and I had no issues. But if you have extra time to marinate before you air fry chicken wings, that will do as well.
Why do they add celery to wings?
Since 1964 at a family-owned establishment in Buffalo wings have been served with celery.
